Halloween Safety!

Halloween is a fun time of year to dress up, decorate, enjoy treats, and spend time with friends and family. Whether you are heading out for the evening or staying home to celebrate, a few simple safety precautions can help make the night enjoyable for everyone.

If you are walking around the neighborhood, stay on sidewalks whenever possible and use designated crosswalks when crossing the street. Halloween can mean more people walking around after dark, so remain aware of vehicles and avoid distractions while crossing roads. Carrying a flashlight or wearing reflective clothing can also make pedestrians easier for drivers to see.

Costumes should be comfortable and allow you to see and move easily. Avoid costumes, masks, or accessories that block your vision or make it difficult to walk. If you are using makeup or face paint, make sure it is intended for use on skin and follow the product directions.

For those handing out candy, keep walkways, stairs, and entrances clear of decorations or other objects that could cause someone to trip. Outdoor decorations should be securely placed, and cords should be kept out of walking areas. If you use candles or other open flames, never leave them unattended.

Before enjoying Halloween treats, check that packages are sealed and appear undamaged. For young children, adults should inspect candy and other treats before they are eaten. Be mindful of allergies and dietary restrictions as well.

Pets can also become stressed by costumes, visitors, and unfamiliar noises. Keep pets in a secure area where they can feel comfortable and avoid allowing them to run through open doors as trick-or-treaters arrive.

At Mesa Falls Apartments, we encourage residents to enjoy Halloween while looking out for themselves, their neighbors, and their surroundings. A little preparation can go a long way toward making October 31st a safe and enjoyable night for the entire community.
